The Big Springs FFA Chapter at Thermopolis Middle School is creating something special for the younger students in their community. With the school district moving to a four day week, the chapter launched a brand new program called Boot Camp Fridays. One Friday every month, second and third graders spend the morning learning from middle school FFA members who step into the role of mentors and teachers.

This program gives children a chance to explore agriculture in a hands-on way while giving FFA members real experience leading activities, managing groups, and sharing what they know. The excitement and confidence these members bring to each session have made Boot Camp Fridays a highlight for everyone involved.
In October, the group spent the morning at the Community Garden. Volunteers welcomed the students, guided them through the different growing spaces, and shared how a garden comes to life through teamwork and care. The younger students asked questions, explored the plants, and learned how food grows right in their own community. At the end of the tour, every child received a pumpkin to take home, a simple gift that brought big smiles.
Programs like this show the power of student-led learning. Younger students gain new knowledge and curiosity, while FFA members develop leadership skills that will follow them long after middle school.
