The Little Snake River FFA Chapter in Baggs continues to shine as a chapter that values community, service, and the Wyoming way of life. Under the guidance of Advisor Brett Miller, the chapter hosts an annual gathering that blends the spirit of the season with the importance of caring for local forests. Community members and FFA members arrive ready for a full day of fellowship, conversation, and purposeful work, creating an experience that feels both meaningful and fun.

The tradition centers around forest thinning and the harvesting of Christmas trees. The chapter provides Christmas tree permits for members, families, and anyone in the community who wants to participate. It is common to see multigenerational groups walking through the trees, sharing stories, pointing out their favorite finds, and enjoying the quiet beauty of the mountains. For many families, this day marks the true beginning of the holiday season.

After everyone found their tree, the group headed back to the main gathering spot where lunch was being prepared. The meal came together because the community showed up for one another. Silver Spur Ranch in Encampment donated the potatoes, and the burger came from local businesses and folks who bought the meat at the Carbon County Fair and chose to share the burger with the Little Snake River FFA, while giving the other cuts to the Snake River BBQ. Kids played, neighbors visited, and plates filled quickly. It was a relaxed and easy way for everyone to spend time together.

A highlight of the event is the way the FFA members lead with service. Students take time to cut and deliver trees to individuals in the community who are not able to harvest their own. These deliveries often mean more than the students realize. For many neighbors, a real tree from the mountains brings back memories, tradition, and the comfort of home. The chapter treats this part of the day with care, understanding that service is at the heart of everything FFA stands for.

This gathering is open to all. Members, families, alumni, and community partners are always invited to join. It has become a tradition that strengthens connections, supports responsible forest management, and celebrates the unique culture of the Little Snake River Valley. The Little Snake River FFA Chapter continues to show that when a community comes together with purpose and generosity, everyone benefits.
